At the start of a new academic year, bump an entire cohort's year in one go instead of editing every student by hand. This only changes the year on file - it doesn't touch group memberships, since whether to keep, clear, or reassign those is a separate decision.
Who did what - reset all data, removed a student, deleted a course. Now that more than one person has admin access, this is the only record of which one of you did it.
